Blast18 V Stowupland - Away - 19th May

The Woolpit U13s travelled to Stowupland for the first Blast18 fixture of the season. Winning the toss, Woolpit elected to bowl.

Logan and Percy opened the bowling well against a very strong top-order. The first wicket came from a very sharp runout from Toby fielding at point, who only had one stump to aim at. The other opener was clean-bowled by Henrietta (2-0-10-1) and at the other end Lottie piled on the pressure (2-0-6-0) and dried up the runs.

Stowupland had scored 49 after 8 when Leo (2-0-13-1) clean bowled the no. 4 with his first ball. Harry (2-0-11-2) and Toby (3-0-16-3) then cut through the middle order with Harry setting his field well for some great catching in the outfield from Toby and Logan. Toby took a return catch and had the next batter pinned LBW, but the hattrick was not to be…

Henry and Percy finished the innings with some attacking bowling with Stowupland finishing 124/9. Woolpit’s bowling was excellent and created chances all the way through the innings, it was backed up by everyone in the field. Special mentions for Jacob and Penny who both saved at least 8 runs each.

The total was achievable but Woolpit got off to a very shaky start when Toby was run out early on. Logan and Harry (14) looked like putting on a partnership before Logan was out bowled. But the bowling proved very accurate with changes of pace and very few extras conceded, meaning that runs dried up in the middle overs.

Unfortunately not all batters in the team got the chance to have an impact. Leo ended with a top-score of 20* with Alfie on 3* but Woolpit were unable to reach a competitive total despite a change of gear in the later overs, scoring 63/5.

The bowling and fielding was by far the highlight of the day and it was the second strong performance in two games to take into the second Blast18 fixture on 31st May at home.

Suffolk Cup V Yoxford - Away - 12th May

Woolpit U13s first fixture of the season was a big one – the first round of the U13s Suffolk Cup knockout competition.

After an arduous journey across Suffolk to Yoxford, Woolpit, captained by Logan, won the toss and chose to bat, making best use of the waning daylight.

Having lost the early wicket of Toby to hooping swing, Harry (31* from 32) and Logan (30* from 26 including one 6) put on an unbroken 58 run partnership. After a quick cameo from Percy, Harry retired and Henrietta (31* from 22) and Libby (13* from 15) made it another unbroken 50 run partnership, sealing it with a 2 from forced overthrows from the final ball of the innings. Woolpit had scored a very decent 130 for 2 from their 18 overs.

The bowling attack and fielders backed up the hard work of the batters with a sharp runout of a Yoxford opener from Percy (2-0-5-0 & 1 runout) in the second over. The third over brought a wicket clean-bowled for Logan (2-0-5-1) and the fourth over brought a runout from Henrietta (1-1-0-1 & 2 runouts) from third-man. William (2-0-17-1) had another Yoxford batter clean bowled in the fifth over. Libby (1-0-4-1) was the other wicket taker, but all of the other bowlers contributed by bowling attacking lines and keeping the runs down. Special mentions for Imogen and Josh, Summer and Leo for their tidy bowling and exemplary fielding and a big thanks to all the parents for your help on the night and making the trek to Yoxford.

All round great effort and the team played in a great positive spirit. Woolpit go through to the second round of the cup.

Come on the Woolies!
